White-marked Tussock Moth
Orgyia leucostigma

November Surprise!

The moth numbers and variety have
decreased dramatically over the last month, but this White-marked Tussock Moth made it out on a chilly autumn evening.  I found it in the morning, clinging to the screen door by the deck light.

This is a common moth in my area, summer - fall, as it feeds on just about everything.

And this is occuring on my basement door: I happened upon this White-marked Tussock Moth (Orgyia leucostigma) larva. It was finishing up the silk base for it's "cocoon".
By later that night, it had enclosed itself in a loosely woven dome of silk and setae.
