Dark-spotted Palthis

This is an Erebidae (formerly Noctuidae), that is fairly common in my yard.

Most in this group have what is technically known as a hulking schnozzola, or to put it another way, a pair of elongated labial palps.  These are sensory organs usually not so prominent in most moth species.


Note the buckled wings - another characteristic of the palthis genus..
