Dun Zale
Zale phaenocapna
May 1, 2006

"Phaeno" means gray, dusky or dun.  It's
easy to see how this moth earned that name.

In researching this insect, I discovered that in his book Papillons du Quebec,  Louis Handfield lists Corylus cornuta (Beaked Hazelnut) as the larval host.  This is a plant I am fortunate to have in my yard.  I always liked it.  Now I like it more knowing it hosts a species in one of my favorite moth families - the Zales.
