These ever-present structures on my house are homes to the female P. casta.  Flightless, her life is spent within this tiny tube of sticks.  The male (below) follows her pheromones and they mate
right there.  The eggs are also laid on this mass and the young larvae feed on their mother and, to some extent, her home.
Yep, there's the male on the right, in all its resplendence.  I suppose comments could be made about the man out carousing while his wife is stuck in the house, but that would be too easy, wouldn't it.
