Snowberry Clearwing
Hemaris diffinis
August 12, 2004
Here's the second Hemaris for the site. This one is a bumblebee mimic. There has been an influx of Hummingbird Clearwings over the last week and I almost passed this one up as one of them. Upon second glance, something looked a little different - it was yellower, more like a bumblebee, and the wings were clear, unlike the ruby shaded wings of a hummingbird moth.
It was equally active, though, bouncing from flower to flower, never coming to rest.
