Brown Hooded Owlet
Cucullia convexipennis
June 28, 2010
I get these feeding on the Crooked-stem Asters and goldenrod in my yard every summer. The common name refers to the patterning in the adult moths.
This owlet gets the prize for the species photo most emailed to me for IDing (even though IDing caterpillars is in no way my strong suit). They make an impression on people. Easy to understand why!
