The Angel
Olceclostera angelica
July 6, 2010

Ah, The Angel.  One of my favorites.
I guess  the name comes from those silvery, angel-like wings.  This moth just emerged, as evidenced by the two white spots near the apex of the wings.  In another night or two, the white scales will fall off, creating translucent windows.

This is a typical pose for this Apatelodinae moth. They hang, dead-leaf-like from  those puffy legs.  The subfamily Apatelodinae were once a full family.  They were moved into the Bombycoidea (Silkworm Moth family) a little over a decade ago.

I get one more Apatelodinae in my yard - The Spotted Apatelodes.  It's moth number 85 on this site.  They were on the wing a few weeks earlier.
