It's June 25, 2006, so.....
Happy Tortricidaeday!*

I had a few at the light to choose from this year and opted for this Oak Leaftier Moth (Acleris semipurpurana) to ring in this special day.

While this is the sixth Tortricidae on this site, there is another that goes by the common name of Leaftier - the Gold-striped Leaftier.  The latter is in a different family (Oecophorid).  The larvae of both species share the behavior of feeding concealed within leaves tied together with silk. 





*Tortricidaeday is a national holiday built solely on coincidence.  Upon posting a torticid moth on June 25, 2003, I realized I had done the same on the previous June 25th.  Since some holidays exist for the most asinine reasons, I thought this one would fit right in.  I live in constant fear of neglecting to post a tortricid on a future June 25th, but am assuaged by the fact that few would notice...
